Last Thursday 15 Square had the privilege of joining charities from across the UK at Clothworkers Hall in the City of London for The Charity Governance Awards 2022.
Breaking the unwritten rule of not wearing brown shoes in the City, our project manager Jason was accompanied by Richard to enjoy an evening dedicated to recognising the great work of the nominated charities.
We were so proud to be shortlisted last year and hope to be worthy of a win ourselves one day.
A big thanks to the Clothworkers Company and their partners for hosting this event! It was great to be welcomed by the Immediate Past Master of the Clothworkers Company.
15 Square congratulates this year’s winners of The Charity Governance Awards with some special mention for those we spoke to on the night.
The Cowshed
The Cowshed team have been in operation for only 3 years, yet they are a real reminder that poverty exists in all parts of Britain, even the areas that are percieved as affluent.
They provide high quality, reused, free clothing to their service users.
Not only does this help those in need but it also it means less waste.
We hope they maintain their upward trajectory, and heartfully commend them on the support that they have given to Ukrainian refugees in recent months.
Your voice counts
Your Voice Counts delivered an excellent award acceptance speech with a charming geordie accent.
The brilliant delivery filled the room with warmth.
They were nominated for their award due to their inclusivity within their organisation and it was inspirational to see service users with learning difficulties helping to steer the charity in a direction that delivers their needs.
“No decision about us without us!”
The contagious warmth of their team was immediately obvious, and we were glad to see such a passionate team take home a very well-deserved award.
I Choose Freedom
I choose freedom gave a heartfelt acceptance speech detailing how many women struggle to access services when escaping from domestic violence.
There are many applicants to each place available, but I Choose Freedom predicted an increase in demand for their services during lockdown.
Responding quickly and decisively they managed to increase their output rather than scaling back.
Following their bold steps to increase access to their services they are also undertaking new projects to support men who have are fleeing from domestic abuse situations too.
We applaud them for their tenacity despite difficult times and their approach to overcoming challenges.
It was inspiring to see their ongoing dedication to inclusivity and recognising the needs of the people in their community trying to access their services.
Finally, it was great to speak with some of the Prospect-us team who were partners of the event, as well as Sufina Ahmad MBE who delivered an inspiring speech on the value of inclusivity and diversity, and the strategic challenges and opportunities of the modern-day charity.
We would like to thank the Clothworkers Company for hosting this event, and to the members who welcomed us warmly and made all attending feel truly valued.
