TIME FOR CHANGE?

Seeking Policy Change

In response to the article featuring our ambassador Lesley and the story of her son, Alex, It is clear that is is time for change. 15 Square has long been seeking policy change around circumcision and the trauma that men can suffer. Lesley works tirelessly to educate the public and the medical profession so that they will promote alternatives rather than the most drastic, invasive treatments, to prevent any other family suffering the grief of losing their precious family member, as she has.

Mental health needs should never be in the dark, we want you all to know that you are not alone!

Policy Changes With Alex's Story In Mind

We have had Alex on our mind, and with Lesley’s story published we sought to improve how we at 15 Square offer support to those who reach out to us in times of need. Our messaging service now has quick links to NHS support pages. Should someone find 15 Square in their darkest hour we felt it right to signpost people to the right places.

That being said, we are mindful that the information out in the public and medical space is still lacking. Doctors are often still using outdated recommendations when dealing with cases of phimosis, and many other cases relating to foreskin health.

This has formed part of our outreach to medical, psychological and general support organisations. We want everyone facing any difficulties with foreskin issues (whether intact or circumcised) to be able to access the right kind of support, without fear of judgement, dismissal or outright disbelief of the reality they face.

time for change
We seek collaboration, recognition and resolution.

We have written to the Samaritans to offer our services should people seek their support in this area, we want to work together to get the information on what options are available should people present with issues such as phimosis and paraphimosis, the more education we can get out into the public sphere the better chance that we can help support someone who is facing an often private struggle, all too often men’s needs are driven into the dark, men’s feelings are dismissed by wider society as less than, all too often are mental health needs swept under the rug, until sadly it can be too late, we want to shine the light on men’s health and provide support for them and their partners and families to bring about real change.
